Multi-block Woodcuts
ADULT COURSE: 6 weeks | 18 hours.
Learn how to design and carve a multi-colour art print from woodcut blocks. Multi-block printmaking gives you the opportunity to add colour and complexity to your relief prints.
Course Aim:
You’ll learn the complete process of multi-block relief printing, from carving and registration, to producing your final art print.
How to set up a design to print in multiple colors
Techniques for transferring designs
How to register your print
How to print a multi-block print on a press
The emphasis will be on trying new processes, experimentation, and taking creative risks, as well as finding your personal style. Some previous woodcut experience would be an advantage - we will not be covering basic carving techniques.
There are a variety of presses in our printery that can be used to transfer your artwork from block to paper. These include our 1860 Albion press and traditional etching press. There will also be barens to experiment with, so you can further explore this printmaking technique in your home or studio. We will use hand roller inking techniques and experiment with colour mixing, ombré and embossing.
Whether you are new to print or looking to refresh your understanding, this is a fantastic way to explore a variety of skills in our purpose-designed studio. Participants learn in a small, friendly group and will take home beautifully printed original works of art on paper.

★★★★★
“I've done a printing workshop over a weekend and Renée was a great guide and generous teacher. She has a lot of wisdom about things printerish and has a very inclusive reassuring way of passing on her knowledge. And I loved using those old presses.”
