Ever wanted to try designing an old-school poster using vintage wooden type? Well step right up! Join us for a fun, creative course and discover how to print with these special pieces of typographic history. Wood type is becoming increasingly rare and often not available for public use. This course offers a unique opportunity to work with these beautiful objects. If you're curious about letterpress printing this is a great way to get started.
In this four-week course you will become familiar with type composition, inking methods, and printing press operation. There will be time to learn, develop and explore your creativity during your time in the printery. We will start with small experimental pieces and work through to larger more developed layouts at a pace that suits you. You will use the beautiful 1860 historic Albion Press to transfer your artwork from block to paper.
Whether you are new to print or looking to refresh your understanding, this is a fantastic way to explore a variety of techniques in our purpose-designed studio. Participants learn in a small, friendly group and will take home beautifully printed original works of art on paper.

COURSE DETAILS
4 week course: November 13th - December 4th
Time: Wednesday evening 6:00pm - 9:00pm
Location: The Armarie Room, Founders Park, Nelson
Instructor: Renee Hadlow
Experience level: No experience necessary. The minimum age requirement for this course is 16+
Limited to 6 places, bookings essential.
All materials and equipment are included in the course fee. Please bring any words, phrases or text you would like to work with.
In the workshop wear closed toe shoes and some old clothes. Long hair should be tied back and jewellery removed when operating the printing presses.
Refunds or cancellations cannot be accepted within 72 hours of the course starting. You can however transfer your enrolment to another person who would like to participate.
The Armarie Room will reschedule any classes that cannot take place due to unforeseen circumstances.
